Definition

(formal/literary) To stay or remain in a place or situation for a longer period than intended, often because of a strong emotional attachment or a reluctance to leave; to persist or continue to exist in a subtle or faint way. Often used to describe a memory, feeling, or effect that continues to be felt after the initial event or stimulus has passed.
